The Image of Africa:

The Chinese connection:
- About 30 Chinatowns, each housing 2000 or more Chinese workers, have been established in parts of Africa.
-Oil-rich Angola, is central to China's strategic African plans; a country to be flattered and indulged through aid and cheap loans in exchange for oil and minerals.
-About 900 trade deals are happening throughout the continent. China is about to begin building a $8.3 billion railway to connect the northern Nigerian city of Kano to the port city of Lagos - the state-run China National Offshore Oil Corporation having paid $2.3bn this year for a 45% stake in Nigeria's Akpo oilfield, 200 kilometres offshore.
-Africa has lost nearly 500,000 jobs in its textile factories over the past decade as a result of cheap Chinese imports. In Zambia, only 20 textile factories remain out of 250 just 20 years ago.
- Wang Jianpin, a businessman from a city in east China's Zhejiang Province, shifted one fourth of the production capacity of his Hasan Shoes Co. to Nigeria in 2006. Wang has decided to invest a further six million U.S. dollars.
- Trade between China and Africa increased from just under 10 billion U.S. dollars to nearly 40 billion U.S. dollars, and is likely to surpass 50 billion dollars in 2006 and hit 80 billion dollars in 201
