Afrifashion presents: Zulurose

Another day, another line. The latest Afriurban label we present you goes by the name of ZULUROSE .
The Zu is " a mens and womens fashion label celebrating the unexpected metamorphosis of culture in its many colours. An eclectic marriage of metropolitan style, pattern, colour, tailoring, and old world charm. Zulu Rose caravans the crossroads of inspiration, imagination, and intuition in search of that perfect style to high light your inner image full of beauty"

They have a casual collection, a couture line and besposke production, and while their T-shirts are produced entirely in Los Angeles, the Mecca of T-shirt culture, The rest of their products have them source fabrics and garments from Africa.

The line is certainly a gage of quality and savoir-faire, but Africaincorp would like to see Great design house such as this one to move some aspect of the chain of production in key African markets, which should stimulate the local manufacturing market as well as, help them meet their bottom line and increase market share. To read in the near future on the inside of Afriurban labels-" produced entirely in Africa. Only the finest fabrics and garments used", would be a great accomplishement for the entire Fashion-manufacturing industry in Africa.

With stockings in Los Angeles,Brooklyn,Chicago and New York city they ambition to bring Africhic fashion to a store near you.
Interestingly enough online purchases is made possible in various currencies among which:
US dollars
British pound
South African pound
Euro
Japanese Yen
Canadian dollars.
Hopefully online consumers should be able to make purchase in ECO in the future.

They offer a retail collection which is different from their custom tailored unique pieces. They are therefore able to satisfy the mass-market and the exclusive crowd.
The Zulurose brand is total experience ,they also offer a online magazine selftitled "Rugged the modern lifestyle for discerning Africans", a podcast show available on Itunes.

See some of their work in the next post.

Zulu Rose a dit…

Thanks for the coverage of the Zulu Rose.

Regarding your comment "Another day another line."

We've been producing custom cut and sew clothing for about 8 years.

We have worked with the likes of many of America's top dance companies such as Alvin Ailey, Ron K. Brown's Evidence, Forces of Nature, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company.

Style maven, Susan Taylor (Editor of Essence magazine) is a repeat client, and also wore a Zulu Rose dress to the premier of last year's Black Style NOW 2006 event in Manhattan, NYC.

We have also been retailing in Los Angeles since 2004, which I think when all taken in combination sufficiently dispels the idea of "another day another line."

Most people simply do not know about Zulu Rose, because most people do not bother with high profile lifestyle apparel.

That is why we have launched an aggressive yet personalized web campaign to inform the rest of the world of exactly what we are and are not doing.

Our tshirt line, introduces all people to designer African fashion at a very consumer friendly price point for the superior quality of the goods.

Zulu Rose is not the next Billionaire's Boys Club, or Roca Wear trying to take over the world. Zulu Rose has, and will always remain a specialty item for specialty people.

Re:Produced entirely in America. Only the finest sewing & fabrics are used.

That is not entirely true. If you carefully researched our website you will learn that only our tshirt line is sewn in Los Angeles.

That is primarily because LA is the undisputed mecca of tshirt culture. To stay on top of the couture tshirt lifestyle, we have to go to were the action is.

Zulu Rose feels it is best to produce our clothing in America, than to out source it to China. There is already enough bootlegging of African products and designs in China. No need to give them a direct pipeline to what we are doing.

Zulu Rose is determined to build business relationships with Africa were possible. We agree with the commercials on SABC1 Africa is "alive with possibility."

Many of the fabrics used for our couture and bespoke collections are produced in Africa. Our spring and summer dress line consists of all African fabrics we personally sourced.

Last season, we tried production in Africa and 85% of the garments were spoiled. That is why our garments DO NOT READ "Produced entirely in Africa. Only the finest fabrics and garments used." No one can say Zulu Rose did not try. But we are in a world class industry and our model is to build world class products with superior quality.

Our business model definitely includes working with African people in some capacity. Even if it is as simple as having African, models, and staff.

Right now, that means employing African labor in the US. Our tailors are from Senegal and Nigeria. The lead designers are Haitian and Nigerian. Our in-house screen printing department is a family affair.

Last year we *personally* donated spoiled garments to the youth in Rio De Janeiro's favelas. It is important for us to do this kind of work in person, as it builds the image in the african psyche that we can help ourselves.

We are thinking Zulu Rose might be one of the most progressive, personal and fashion forward African company out there.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about us. I hope everything is more clear.

"Regarding another day another line." Might I say, another day.. another blog....

Best wishes,

Alex
